Over half of population is not satisfied with economic situation in Moldova, POB

The economic situation in the Republic of Moldova remained unchanged compared with a year ago, consider 42.3% of the respondents of the Public Opinion Barometer (POB) that was presented by the Institute for Public Policy. Also, 33.7% of the respondents believe the situation will remain unchanged in a year. Some 67% of those surveyed are not satisfied with the economic situation in the country. This is by 16% more compared with the similar survey of this spring. 25% of those polled said they are neither satisfied, nor dissatisfied, IPN reports.

At the same time, 19.4% of the respondents think the economic situation in a year will be slightly better, while 0.9% believe it will be much better. 18.7% consider the economic situation will be slightly worse, while 8.2% said it will be much worse. As regards the prospects in a year, the young people expressed greater optimism. 27.9% of the respondents who consider that the situation will improve more or less are aged between 18 and 29, while 29.5% of those who think the situation will worsen are older than 60.

Asked how satisfied they are with their dwelling, 58.7% and, respectively, 9.2% of those interviewed said they are rather satisfied and very satisfied. Almost 20% of those polled said they are not really satisfied, while nearly 12% said they are not at all satisfied.

Asked about the public transport, 50.8% and 3.8% of the respondents said they are rather satisfied and very satisfied, while 24.3% and 17.1% said they are not really satisfied and not at all satisfied.

As to the quality of medical assistance, 27.1% and 1.5% of those polled said they are rather satisfied and very satisfied, while 34.3% and 34.0% said they are not really satisfied and not at all satisfied.

The respondents consider that for the socioeconomic situation in the country to improve, measures should be first of all taken to fight corruption, to fight crime and to replace the administration.

The survey was conducted between November 18 and December 5, 2017 and covered a sample of 1 113 persons older than 18 from 82 communities of Moldova, except for the Transnistrian region. The margin of sampling error is +/- 2.8%.
