More than half of the persons held in the penitentiary institutions of the country voted by 3pm. Press officer of the Department of Penitentiary Institutions Anna Botez has told IPN that about 4,100 of the 7,103 detainees have cast their ballots.
By a polling station was established in each of the penitentiaries. National and international observers monitor the voting process there. The detainees are asked if they want to vote. If they accept, they are escorted to the ballot box and vote with the identity card, which is kept by the administration of the jail.
During the election campaign, the prisoners were informed about the candidates for President through TV channels and the available newspapers.
Ex-Premier Vlad Filat and businessman Veaceslav Platon voted in the morning.
More than 7,000 ballots were distributed to the 17 jails of Moldova.
