The health facilities contracted by the National Health Insurance Company last year performed 92 transplant operations, by 14 more than a year before, IPN reports.
In a press release, the Company said 12 surgeries were liver transplants, 18 were kidney transplants, while 62 were cornea transplants. About 14.5 million lei was allocated from the mandatory health insurance funds for the purpose.
A liver transplant surgery costs over 789,000 lei, a kidney transplant – 180,000 lei, while a cornea transplant – 27,000 lei. The operations are performed by two contracted medical institutions: National Clinical Hospital and Municipal Clinical Hospital “Saint Trinity”.
