A number of 80,325 students attend school in the municipality of Chisinau, by 3,258 fewer compared with last year. Out of them, 26,555 go to primary schools, while 17,875 to high schools, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a report by the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport.
The report says that the number of students changes as many children go abroad together with their parents. 295 students have gone abroad during this summer alone.
The latest data show that 10,999 students go to suburban preuniversity education institutions. Out of them, 3,947 students are fist-fourth graders, 5,167 are fifth-ninth graders, while 1,332 are tenth-twelfth graders.
As many as 1,714 children go to the first grade in Chisinau and 6,967 in all the municipality, by 474 more than in the 2008-2009 school year.
About 2,500 students of the total number were absent from school during the first school week. About half of them were sick. 262 children absented themselves without reason. A part of the children did not return from abroad, where they are vacationing, while others did not return from their grandparents.
