During the first week of the abolition of the EU visa requirements for Moldovans, over 8,000 Moldovans holding biometric passports travelled to the EU. About 31% of them had only new biometric passports that didn’t contain visas, IPN reports
According to the Border Police, most of he Moldovans chose to go through the Leuseni customs post. Here, the border police recorded 3,122 Moldovans who crossed the border based on biometric passports. Of them, 1,089 Moldovans had new passports.
A number of 1,405 Moldovans left Moldova through the Chisinau International Airport. Of them, 486 crossed the border with the biometric passport for the first time. Another 1,315 Moldovans with biometric passports crossed the border through the Costesti customs post.
Last week, the Border Police received no information from the Romanian colleagues about unauthorized crossings of the EU border by Moldovans.
The liberalized visa regime between Moldova and the EU took effect on April 28.
