Over 6500 Romanians in the Republic of Moldova voted in the election of the President of Romania, starting on Friday, November 8, at 12.00, when the diaspora polling stations were opened, and until 09.30 on Saturday, November 9. The process goes on. The data are presented online by the Central Election Bureau (BEC) of Romania, IPN reports.
According to the BEC, of 6500 voters in the Republic of Moldova, almost 20 exercised their voting rights by mail, the rest being included on the supplementary rolls.
37 polling stations are open in the Republic of Moldova today and on Sunday, between 07.00 and 21.00. Voters who by 21.00 will be on the premises of the polling station, as well as waiting in a queue outside the polling station, will be able to exercise their voting right until 23.59 at the latest.
In Chisinau there are 12 polling stations, in Balti - two polling stations, and one station operates in each of the 23 other settlements.
To be able to vote, Romanian citizens in the Republic of Moldova need a Romanian identity card or a simple electronic passport issued by the Romanian authorities, documents that are valid during the election day. Voters who are 18 years old on the day of voting may cast their ballot.
Since the opening of polling stations in the diaspora, almost 85 thousand Romanian citizens have voted in the ballot. Of these, a little over 25 thousand voted by mail.
Should the President of Romania not be elected from the first round, a second round of elections will follow on November 22, 23 and 24.
