More than 6,000 police employees will deal with notifications of offenses during voting until the ballots are handed over to the district electoral councils. They will also maintain public order at the 2,139 polling stations and on an area within 100 meters from these, IPN reports.
Sergiu Paiu, head of the General Police Inspectorate, in a press briefing said the police will maintain the security of all the persons who take part in the elections, will offer assistance to the local public authorities in protecting the property of the electoral councils and commissions and will escort the transportation of ballots, ensuring their integrity.
Between 7am and 9pm, the organized transportation of persons by motor vehicles with more than eight seats, except for regular routes, is banned.
The police will also monitor the observance of the measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
When the voting is over, the police will ensure guard at the courts of law situated near polling places, where the ballots will be kept until the election results are validated.
Alexandru Ciobănaș, head of the General Investigation Division of the General Police Inspectorate, called on the citizens not to yield to the influence of persons who aim to disrupt voting and public order as they will face fines. Investigation groups on the election day will document each case of violation of the legislation. There were assigned prosecutors who will monitor the activity of the police.
