Over 50 gun carry permits suspended and annulled so far this year

More than 1,400 contravention procedures were instituted so far this year for violating the rules of owning, selling and carrying lethal and non-lethal weapons. In the same period, there were initiated 53 procedures for withdrawing gun carry permits, by annulling or suspending these, IPN reports.

During the first three months of this year, the police seized almost 30 firearms for violating the rules of owning, carrying and using guns or illegally held guns. Nineteen guns were yielded up voluntarily.

The police recommend the gun owners not to wear guns under the influence of alcohol, not to misuse them and not to wear them at meetings or other mass rallies so as not to endanger the personal life and health and the life and health of those around.

The guns must be kept in safe at home. In case of trips abroad, these should be taken to the local police inspectorate or specialized shops for storage.

In case of an incident, contravention or offense, the person is deprived of the gun permit and is banned from owning guns for a period of up to five years. The misuse of guns in the case of private individuals is punished with a fine of 300 to 1,500 lei or ban on owing, carrying and using a gun for a period of two to five years.

In Moldova, over 65,000 private individuals own over 77,300 arms and more than 5,300 of these are non-lethal weapons.
