More than 50 bomb scares were announced in Moldova on Tuesday and all of them turned out to be hoaxes. They referred to public institutions situated in Chisinau and in almost all the country’s districts.

Representatives of the General Police Inspectorate said that among the targets of bomb hoaxes were the Parliament Building, the Government Building, courts of law, shopping centers, hospitals, the Public Services Agency and the Chisinau International Airport. The employees and visitors were evacuated from the buildings.

Contacted by IPN for details, Diana Fetco, spokeswoman for the General Police Inspectorate, said the bomb scares were reported in turn, initially in Chisinau and then in the country’s districts. They referred to mayor’s offices, subdivisions of the Public Services Agency, etc. The examinations carried out at the scenes lasted until late at night and no explosives were found as a result.

Diana Fetco noted that the bomb threats were announced by email and the messages were presumably sent from the same email address. Measures are being taken to identify the culprit.

Intentional misleading about an act of terrorism is punished with a fine of at most 42,500 lei or 180 to 240 hours of community service or a maximum jail term of two years.
