Fires caused by smoking in bed killed 42 persons in the first 4 months of this year, or almost each second person killed by fire in Moldova during the respective period, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the Fire Service Department, the average temperature of a burning cigarette is 600°C. An unextinguished cigarette can inflame cotton in less than 30 seconds and paper in 40-50 seconds. Hay and straw can catch fire in 30-45 seconds, and wood in nearly 2 hours. In the first 4 months of this year, there were registered 946 fires in Moldova, which killed 87. In April alone there were registered 12 lethal cases caused by fire.
