Over 36% of eligible citizens voted before 18:00

Over 560 thousand voters, representing over 36% of the total number of registered voters, cast their votes in the second round of elections before 18:00. Over 33% voted in the municipality of Chișinău before this hour.

In a press briefing, the Central Electoral Commission chairman, Dorin Cimil, said that the highest voter turnout was recorded in Mihălășeni, Ocnița district, where 68% of the voters had voted before 18:00. The settlement with the lowest attendance is the city of Calarași, where only 23% of eligible citizens had cast their votes.

In the capital city, the most active voters are Râșcani district residents - 34% attendance, while the lowest voter turnout is in the Ciocana district, where only 28% voted.

Voter demographics data shows that women are more active voters than men, with a ratio of 54.31% to 45.69%. Most active voters are aged between 56 and 70 years, accounting for 35.64%, followed by voters between the ages of 41 and 55, constituting 25.04%. The following population segments by age are: 26 to 40 years - 22.29%, above 71 years - 10.80% and 18 to 25 years – 6.25%.

Dorin Cimil said that, 52 incidents were registered before 18:00, which include organized voter transportation incidents, electoral campaigning on the grounds of polling stations, right to vote obstructions or voter corruption. The CEC chairman said that the cases are investigated by the police.

Four complaints were filed with the CEC regarding one case of voter corruption, one case of right to vote obstruction and two cases of electoral campaigning.

The polling stations are open until 21:00. If necessary, the polling station schedule will be extended by two hours.
