The water supply and sewerage network built this year extended on a distance of 1,200 km. As a result, more than 30,000 households gained access to water supply and sewage services. The figures were presented by Minister of the Environment Gheorghe Salaru in a news conference, being quoted by IPN.

Water supply and sewage networks were built in Ialoveni, Cimislia, Cahul, Leova, Dubasari, Calarasi, Ocnita and other districts. However, half of the country’s population still does not have access to water supply and sewage services and this problem will be addressed the next years, said the minister.

In 2013, there was built a wastewater treatment station in Orhei town, within a project supported by the European Commission and the World Bank. It will enable to improve the sanitary conditions for about 20,000 people.

Gheorghe Salaru reminded that a feasibility study is made for developing the centralized Soroca-Balti water pipeline to the districts of Sangerei, Telenesti, Drochia, Rascani, Soroca, Floresti and Balti and in adjoining villages.

The pumping station of the water supply system of the Soroca-Balti water pipeline has been reequipped this year at a cost of about 26.2 million lei. In 2014, there will be reequipped four pumping stations. The electric pumps there will be replaced with automation and protection boards. Five districts will be connected to this water pipeline. These are Drochia, Rascani, Sangerei, Telenesti, and Floresti.
