The police to date this year documented over 30 bomb hoaxes. In 17 cases, the callers were identified and a part of them were already held accountable, officials of the General Police Inspectorate told a news conference.
The Inspectorate’s head Iurie Podarilov said that legal action was taken after a bomb scare was recently announced at a shopping mall in Chisinau. Measures are being taken to identify the author of the bomb hoax.
He noted that each case of intervention implies the spending of public funds and these rise proportionally to the size of the target. The costs are larger if several addresses are involved, as it happened when it was announced that explosives were planted at all the shopping centers and bus stations.
Deliberate misinforming about an act of terrorism carries a maximum fine of 42,500 lei, 180 to 240 hours of community service or at most two years in jail.
