Law enforcement officers announced that they had seized over 2 million lei from “members of the criminal organization Shor” during over 10 searches conducted in Chisinau in a case of transportation of high-ranking officials, goods and money for the benefit of a party, IPN reports.
The General Police Inspectorate said that the searches were carried out together with PCCOCS prosecutors in the offices and home of a married couple aged over 50. The man was responsible for coordinating the work of drivers, even though he officially worked as the manager of a tailor’s shop in the capital city.
“To disguise his activities, he rented cars used for transportation from a company and paid the drivers informally, with cash in envelopes. Thus, as a result of the searches, cash in different currencies– in lei, euros, dollars and pounds sterling - was seized from the couple. The five drivers from whom the cellphones were seized were also searched and will be investigated. The latter cooperate with the authorities,” noted the GPI.
The man was detained for 72 hours, while his wife is being investigated at large. They were both classed as suspects. The prosecutors are to decide whether to ask for preventive arrest for them or not.
