More than 280 refugee children are attending free Romanian language courses. The lessons are held in five educational institutions in Chisinau municipality, where refugee children also study, IPN reports.

The municipality said the 90-minute lessons take place twice a week, in two groups of 20 children each. The courses are held by qualified teachers, specialized in teaching Romanian. For this program, the host institutions were equipped with projectors, laptops, printers and interactive whiteboards. Also, the furniture needed in classrooms was purchased.

“This program is important given the large number of Ukrainian refugees benefiting from temporary protection in the capital city, including 8,333 children. It is obvious that learning Romanian is an essential aspect of the integration process, which gives children and adults the opportunity to adapt more easily to life in the Republic of Moldova,” said the Chisinau City Hall.

In addition to refugees, citizens of the Republic of Moldova can also attend these courses. The Romanian language study program is implemented by the Chisinau City Hall in partnership with the Charity Center for Refugees and with support from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
