Over 2,500 explosives neutralized by deminers last year

The bomb squads of the National Army in the course of 2020 annihilated more than 2,500 explosive devices, IPN reports.

According to senior officer of the Bomb Tech Service, captain Ivan Cornegruţa, the largest demining operation was performed in April-June in Bălțați village of Ialoveni district. It involved 16 members of the bomb squad “Codru” who found 1,260 explosives of different calibers, including artillery shells, grenade launchers and antitank mines, following a request made by the local authorities after two children were seriously injured when an unidentified device exploded.

The munitions dated from World War II and were destroyed in conditions of maximum security.

The village Plop Ştiubei of Căuşeni district in 2020 was the locality with the largest number of demined devices – 306 munitions.

In 2020, among the largest demined munitions were four aerial bombs weighting 50 kg and, respectively, 100 kg. These were found in Anenii Noi and Ştefan Vodă districts.

Last year, the bomb squads of the National Army performed 282 demining operations in different localities in Moldova.
