Over 20,000 trees and shrubs to be planted in Chisinau on Greening Day

Over 20,000 trees and shrubs will be planted in Chisinau on the National Greening Day campaign on the last Saturday of October. Chisinau's chief arborist Eliferi Haruta told Info-Prim Neo that the following species of trees will be planted along the city's streets and in parks: maples, ash, acacias, willows and lindens. Particular attention will be paid in those areas where trees were downed. This year around 3,000 trees were downed either by the city's workers due to their hazardousness or by wind. On the last Saturday of October, municipal employees as well as volunteers are expected to participate in the campaign. In the past, the National Greening Day was observed on the first Saturday of April, but several years ago it was rescheduled to October after experts said it would help the trees' rooting.
