More than 20,000 citizens from the diaspora have registered beforehand for the parliamentary elections of February 24, 2019. The figure is much higher than in the presidential delectations of November 2016, when over 3,500 Moldovans who settled abroad registered in advance. President of the Central Election Commission Alina Russu, after today’s meeting of the Commission, said the Moldovans abroad could have registered beforehand by the January 9 deadline, IPN reports.

According to Alina Russu, the Moldovans of constituency No. 50 were the most active ones. These are the citizens who settled in countries situated westward Moldova, especially those who live in Italy. The Moldovans in the UK, Romania, the U.S. and Canada are also active. The figure has grown from elections to elections.

The CEC president said the number of registrations will be taken into account when the Government decision concerning the number of polling places abroad is taken. Alina Russu reminded that the polling places are established 35 days before the election day.
