The inhabitants of Chisinau municipality until now have submitted over 20,000 applications for cold-month allowances. Compared with the same period last year, the number is by about 15,000 applications lower, head of the Public Amenities Division Petru Gontea said in the February 3 meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions, IPN reports.
About 18,000 of the applications were filed to district head’s offices for examination. Petru Gontea said the low number of applications is due to the fact that the applicants do not meet all the conditions imposed by the Chisinau Municipal Council for the current heating season. A similar number of applications was lodged in 2008.
Those who apply for cold-month allowances pay 60% of the heat bill, while the local authorities pay the rest of the sum, if the application is accepted. The recipients of cold-month allowances who paid the bills fully will receive the compensations for the winter months back.
The cold-month allowances are offered to families on monthly incomes of under 1,700 lei per member. The deadline for applications is next April. In the 2012-2013 heating season, such allowances were paid to 34,000 families. About 100 million lei was allocated from the municipal budget for the purpose.
