Over 200 judges will be evaluated this year by the College for the Selection and Evaluation of Judges. The list and order were approved by the Superior Council of Magistracy at its plenary session on Tuesday. Judges who are promoted will receive a pay rise, IPN reports.

The first to be evaluated will be the judges temporarily transferred to the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ), followed by those of the courts of appeal, then the evaluation will continue with the judges of the ordinary courts, in order of seniority, with priority given to those with more seniority.

CSM President Sergiu Caraman said that "the evaluation process is expected by both society and judges, the main objective being to ensure transparency and efficiency in the judicial system".

According to the SCM, the evaluation is initiated by the College for the Selection and Evaluation of Judges based on a plan approved by the SCM. "The start of the evaluation process of judges by the College for the Selection and Evaluation of Judges will be an important step in the context in which evaluations are now carried out by external evaluation commissions," the SCM says in a press release.
