More than 20 nongovernmental organizations requested withdrawing Chiril Gaburici’s candidacy for the post of Prime Minister until all the circumstances concerning his integrity are elucidated. The public call was transmitted to four parliamentary groups and the administrative state bodies, IPN reports.
The call says that Moldova is going through a difficult period that is still worsening. The Government wasn’t installed; the 2015 fiscal policy and budget weren’t adopted, while the national currency has depreciated by over 10% in this period of political instability. As a result, confidence in the financial-banking system is diminishing.
The signatories say the nomination of Chiril Gaburici for premiership by President Nicolae Timofti one day after this candidate was presented officially cannot be fully accepted by society and public opinion. Society does not have enough data and information about the integrity and professional competence of the candidate. The NGOs recommend holding public debates so that the candidate gains public confidence for doing reforms and proves his professional integrity and competence.
“We demand designating a professional and meritocratic candidate who would meet the high integrity standards and requirements of a democratic state with the rule of law. Otherwise, we urge the competent persons to immediately challenge the constitutionality of the presidential decree by which the candidate was nominated,” reads the call.
On February 18, the new Government will ask for a vote of confidence from Parliament. To be invested, the Gaburici Government needs to garner at least 51 votes of MP.
