Between 2008-2019, from Chisinau municipality educational system, 17 318 children went abroad with their family. This figure represents the equivalent of at least 20 educational establishments. Only in the eight months of the current year, 1,468 students left the country, compared with 907 students - during 2009. Data were presented at the Teachers' Forum in Chisinau, conducted by the Directorate-General for Education, Youth and sports, IPN reports.

"The number of students moving abroad has reached alarming levels and requires the involvement of all the decision makers in identifying solutions to reduce the population exodus", said the head of DGETS, Rodica Guțu.

"The lack of a normative act that would regulate the process of expelling, student file withdrawal and re-admission in case of their return is an issue. Another problem is the lack of admission tools for students from abroad and those who have obtained the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova or those who have refugee status. In the case of the latter, they do not even know the state language,” noted Rodica Guţu.

The DGETS head says that they will intervene with proposals to solve the problem following a comprehensive analysis of the school situation of students returned from abroad, which may require revising of the regulation of the subordinated Center of Romanian language for foreign students.
