The police detected more than 16 million counterfeit cigarettes without documents of origin in a locality in Rezina district. There were also found “Duty free only” excise stamps and the cigarette manufacturing line, IPN reports.
The Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases said that a mobile customs team stopped a unit of transport at the entrance to Florești town. The driver managed to run away. The 34-year-old passenger said that he didn’t transport anything. The officers discovered 20 boxes with 300,000 cigarettes without excise duties in the vehicle.
Searches were later carried out in Rezina and the clandestine cigarette factory was found. The cigarettes, excise duties and production line were seized.
