Over 140 transplant surgeries were performed last year using mandatory health insurance funds, including three liver transplants and one kidney transplant. The majority of procedures involved amniotic membrane transplants on the ocular surface, reports IPN.

The National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) states that five million lei were allocated for transplant procedures.

The surgeries are carried out in two public medical institutions contracted by CNAM:
Timofei Moșneaga Republican Clinical Hospital.
Sfanta Treime Municipal Clinical Hospital.

For 2025, a budget of 7.8 million lei has been allocated for 156 transplants.

"Transplant surgeries are funded through the mandatory health insurance system. All insured individuals who meet the medical criteria and are on the waiting list can benefit from these procedures," the official statement says.
