During three years of the launch of the number portability service, over 136,000 phone users ported their numbers after changing the carrier. According to the national ICT regulator (ANRCETI), these include over 124,000 mobile phone numbers and more than 11,000 landline numbers.
“About 2.5% of the phone users benefitted from this service during three years. The percentage is not high, but the most important thing is the fact that the users’ freedom to keep the number when changing the provider encourages competition. This makes the operators to continue to invest in new networks and technologies and to provide more varied and attractive offers for users,” said ANRCETI director Grigore Varanita.
During three years, Moldcell accepted 75,700 new numbers into its network, Orange Moldova – 27,200, while Moldtelecom (Unite) – 21,600. In the case of fixed-line telephony, the over 11,000 numbers were ported to the networks of 41 providers, mainly to Starnet, Orange Moldova and Arax Impex.
