Since the beginning of this year, more than 130 drivers tried to escape punishment by bribing police officers. Recent cases were reported in Chisinau, Orhei and Criuleni, IPN reports, with reference to the General Police Inspectorate.
In Buiucani district of the capital city, a 55-year-old man, caught driving inebriated, left €300 in the policeman's car. The driver had a concentration of 1.00 mg/l of alcohol vapor in the exhaled air.
A 21-year-old woman without a license, who was caught speeding, together with the owner of the car, tried to offer 2,000 lei to avoid penalty. It happened in Orhei.
Another attempt to corrupt police officers was reported in Corjova village of Criuleni district. A 30-year-old man, without a license, gave 1,400 lei to policemen to avoid being fined.
The other man was under the influence of drugs when he tried to bribe the police officers with 1,000 lei.
Law enforcement officials emphasize that giving bribes to a public official is a crime that entails criminal liability.
