Over 100,000 voters are on the electoral lists for the elections in the People's Assembly in Gagauzia and are awaited on Sunday, September 9, at the voting booths, Info-Prim Neo learned from Svetlana Mironova, chairwoman of the Central Electoral Commission of Gagauzia. There are 164 candidates in the electoral race, 35 of whom are to be elected as National Assembly representatives. 84 candidates represent parties, while 80 are independent. Most of the registered candidates are from the Communist Party. The rest are represented in decreasing sequence by: the Liberal Democratic Party, the Socialists’ Party, the Social Democratic Party, the Democratic Party, the Liberal Party and the Popular Socialist Party. Mobile booths will also be available for Sunday’s elections. Two weeks before the elections and until 3 p.m. on election day, written requests can be submitted to vote on-the-spot. Two members of the electoral bureaus will take the mobile booth to the requested places. The polling stations will start their activity on September 8, after the members of the electoral bureaus receive and count the ballots. On election day, the polling stations will be open at 7a.m. and will work until 9 p.m. The voters will need to have their ID and certificate indicating their place of residence so they can vote. The elderly that don’t have ID cards or whose religion doesn’t allow them to have an ID card can come to the booths with the old soviet-type passports. The voters can also obtain a temporary ID at 3 electoral departments. Servicemen can present their certificates. Svetlana Mironova said that the Central Electoral Committee doesn’t have the authority to exclude the Communist Party representatives from the race for using the the hammer and the sickle, which were recently banned by the Moldovan Parliament. The electoral spending was estimated at around 1.7 million lei. The ballots will be tri-lingual – the state language, the Russian language and Gagauz. 62 polling stations will be opened in UTA Gagauzia. The Poeple's Assembly’s representatives are elected directly for a 4-year term.
