As many as 100,800 Astra Zeneca vaccine doses donated by Romania were conveyed to Chisinau by two trucks of the Romanian General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations. The vaccines were stored at the National Public Health Agency, but on June 14 will be distributed to districts, IPN reports.

Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova Daniel Ioniță said the current lot supplements the previous consignments of vaccine donated by Romania to Moldova, taking the number to a total of 405,600 doses of vaccine against COVID-19.

According to the diplomat, these vaccine doses represent the fulfillment of a promise made by President Klaus Iohannis to President Maia Sandu during the visit paid by the first to Moldova last December. The doses are also a gesture of solidary that Romania and the EU member states have made for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. Today’s event can also be regarded as a part of the Team Europe’s effort in the Republic of Moldova.

Daniel Ioniță also said that vaccination is the safest way for containing the pandemic and it is important to accelerate the immunization process as Moldova has everything needed to overcome the situation related to COVID-19 in healthcare.

The Government of Romanian purchased the vaccines and the Ministry of Health of Romania later donated them to Moldova’s National Public Health Agency.

Ala Nemerenco, adviser to the President on health issues, thanked all those involved in the effort to bring vaccines to Moldova. She noted it is important to remember the gesture of Romania and of other states that helped Moldova to cope with the pandemic. The citizens should realize that the pandemic can be overcome by vaccination and should follow the example of doctors who received a vaccine in a large number and no longer contract COVID-19.

A part of the vaccines from this lot will be allocated to the Transnistrian region.
