Over 100,000 Moldovans aboard preregistered for elections

More than 1,000 Moldovans who are abroad preregistered for the snap parliamentary elections of July 11, 2021. According to the Central Election Commission, about 21,800 of them are from Italy, with over 1,000 settlements being indicated by the Moldovan voters living there. The UK comes next with 16,183 preregistrations. Germany ranks third with 14,147 preregistrations, IPN reports.

As many as 8,928 persons indicated they will vote in France, while 7,308 Moldovans said they will exercise the right to vote in the Russian Federation. Of these, 2,401 submitted applications in written form. This way, Russia remains the country with the largest number of preregistration applications, as at the previous elections.

By one person pre-registered in such countries as Afghanistan, Andorra, Antarctica, Saudi Arabia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Basil, Ivory Coast, Guinea, and Hong Kong.

The preliminary registration is an optional service by which the Moldovan citizens with the right to vote announce their intention to vote in a particular settlement abroad. The goal of the service is to estimate the number of Moldovan electors who will vote outside the country.

In the first round of the presidential elections of November 1, 2020, more than 150,000 Moldovans cast their ballots at polling stations abroad, while in the November 15 runoffs – over 263,000.
