Over 10,000 Chisinau children have one or both of parents abroad

A number of 10,160 children from Chisinau have one or both of the parents working abroad. A relevant assessment was carried out in all the kindergartens and schools of Chisinau last week, said the consultant of the Education, Youth and Sport Division Tatiana Butnaru, Info-Prim Neo reports. Only 5% of these children talk to their parents on the phone or through the Internet every day, 10% – once a week, 40% – once a month, while the others practically do not communicate with them. Psychologists warn that the emotional risks to which these children are exposed increase proportionally to the length of the period within which their parents are not near them. At Monday's meeting of the City Hall, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said the municipal authorities must make sure that every child benefits from social and psychological assistance. He stressed that psychologists and nurses should work in schools and offer the children the warmth they lack. According to the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family, every fifth child in Moldova has one or both of the parents abroad. Both of the parents of 2,444 of the 10,160 children from Chisinau work abroad.
