About 1,000 soldiers have taken their oath to serve Moldova on June 6 at the Memorial Complex “Eternitate” in Chisinau. President Vladimir Voronin attended the event and congratulated the soldiers, their parents and the veterans. Voronin reminded that this year 650 years from the foundation of the Moldovan state are marked. “Scores of events are dedicated to this anniversary in order to educate our youth patriotically,” he said from the tribune. Then, president Voronin took questions from the soldiers’ parents. A single mother ask him why her son has to serve. Voronin answered her that she is still too young and can make a living alone. Voronin told the parents that their sons in the army receive clothes, food and a bed to sleep in. Journalists noticed a black soldier among the recruits. He refused to answer questions, but his superior officer Denis Golban said: “His name is Luis Mendes and he comes from Chisinau. He is a Moldovan, born in Moldova. The color of the skin does not matter. He wants to serve and then to finish the Military Academy”
