More than 1,000 police officers and 16 video cameras will ensure public order in the municipality of Chisinau during the Independence Day and the Language Day. “The persons who will behave inappropriately, will have arms or will be under the influence of alcohol will not be allowed to attend the festivities in the Great National Assembly Square,” Nicolae Macovei, the head of the Ministry of the Interior’s Public Order Division, told a news conference on August 26, Info-Prim Neo reports. Nicolae Macovei said the Ministry will take a series of measures to maintain public order during the national holidays and asks the people and the public organizations to cooperate with the police. He advised the persons who go abroad to rest during the holidays to make sure that their apartments are secure. According to him, the currency exchange and other facilities will be closely supervised on August 27 and 31. Video cameras have been set up in the Great National Assembly Square and the adjoining streets to monitor the situation. “This year, we placed more video cameras so as to have proofs in case of explosions,” Nicolae Macovei said. Iurie Untila, division head at the Traffic Police Department, said police officers will work on the congested streets and help ease traffic. “As every year, the streets Pushkin and Banulescu-Bodoni will be closed for traffic. Special attention will be paid to the speed of the vehicles,” he said.
