More than 1,000 police officers maintained public order at churches and cemeteries during the Easter holidays. The head of the General Police Inspectorate Viorel Cernăuțeanu, who summed up the results of the activity on Easter, in a press briefing said that over 7,000 persons called the common emergency service 112 in the period. The number is lower than last year, IPN reports.

As regards road traffic safety, the traffic police identified about 9,000 violations, including speeding, non-fastening of safety belt, non-giving of way to pedestrians. Over 200 violations were committed by pedestrians.

“We have 40 persons inured in road accidents. The figure is higher than the previous years. At the same time, we didn’t have accidents that resulted in death. We need additional involvement, on the part of our colleagues and also of drivers who must obey the traffic rules,” stated Viorel Cernăuțeanu.

On Low Sunday, the police had 114 fixed posts and 352 mobile teams at the 1,558 cemeteries of Moldova.
