Specialists of the State Ecological Inspectorate, the Pisciculture Service and the Ministry of Environment destroyed over 100 twig fences built on the Raut River by poachers to extract fish. The fences, metal nets and other waste taken out of the water were transported to waste dumps situated in the vicinity, IPN reports.
In a press release, the Ministry of Environment says they agreed the sectors of the river that are to be cleaned and a timetable for the cleanup works. Despite the efforts made to remove the clandestine structures, new such devices continue to appear. These hamper the access of fish upstream and contribute to the acceleration of riverbed clogging.
While on a working visit to the cleaned section of the Raut near Trebujeni, Orhei, Minister of Environment Valeriu Munteanu said the cleanup works will continue and it is evident that the done works contributed to a better flow of water.
