The police documented over 100 instances of “passive electoral corruption”, when people accept monetary or in-kind bribes for their votes. In some cases, the police decided to impose fines, with largest reaching 37,500 lei.

The General Police Inspectorate sent the reports to the National Anticorruption Center. The reports documented instances of voters accepting or receiving, personally or through intermediaries, goods, services, privileges or advantages in any form for the purpose of exercising or refraining from exercising their electoral rights.

Under recent amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses, passive electoral corruption carries fines ranging from 25,000 to 37,500 lei, and the competence is assigned to the National Anticorruption Center. Turning oneself in and actively cooperating with the investigation may lead to exoneration.
