Out of order cooking stoves is main cause of fires in November

Misuse of cooking stoves and stove-pipes is the main cause of fires, based on statistics of this month, Info-Prim Neo informs. According to the Firemen and Rescuers Department, over the 20 days of November, 200 fires which killed 20 persons, including a child, were registered in Moldova. Because of the improper usage of cooking stoves and stove-pipes 24 fires occurred, resulting in four casualties. 14 fires happened as a result of unsupervised children playing with fire, and smoking in bed caused 11 fires. 72 fires were registered last week, 7 of which were generated by unsupervised children, 6 – by short circuits in power networks, 5 because of the out of order coking stoves and smoking in bed. Firemen detected four cases of arson as well. Statistics show that smoking in bed killed 10 persons in November. This weekend, smoking in bed was the cause of the tragic death of two persons – mother and son, one aged 71 and respectively 47 from Naslavcea village, Ocnita. In the same period, a lit cigarette killed a 50 year old man from Ilenuta village, Falesti. Since the beginning of 2006, 2251 fires occurred in Moldova. As a result 203 persons died, including 13 children.
