In 23 lyceums attended by students who speak other languages than Romanian, a part of the subjects will be taught in the Romanian language. The students will be also involved in out-of-school activities for improving the abilities to communicate in the official language. The teachers of these schools will do Romanian language courses. A relevant program of the Ministry of Education will be launched in November, IPN reports.

According to Deputy Minister of Education Liliana Nicolaescu-Onofrei, the program is rather ambitious and aims to improve the quality of the Romanian language taught in Russian schools and to promote the methodology of teaching other subjects in the official language.

The deputy minister also said that 19 schools have taken part in a similar program over the last two years. Positive results were achieved in the schools where the teachers know Romanian proficiently. “There are enough teachers speaking Romanian in Russian schools in Chisinau and in northern Moldova, but in the southern districts it is hard to find such teachers,” stated Liliana Nicolaescu-Onofrei.

The continuous training in Romanian language of teachers is a necessity that is dealt with by this program. As many as 51 teachers have applied to take part until now. They will teach one or two subjects in Romanian in every lyceum.
