OSCE welcomes Alexandru Ursu's release

Ambassador Jennifer Brush, the OSCE Head of Mission to Moldova, welcomed the release of Alexandru Ursu, who was sentenced for 15 years of imprisonment in Transnistria in May 2010. “I am relieved to hear that Alexandru Ursu was set free today,” Jennifer Brush was quoted in a press release from the Mission as saying. “The OSCE has closely monitored the situation, and I welcome the important humanitarian gesture of the Transdniestrian leadership”. Alexandru Ursu was released Monday through a pardon decree by Transnistrian leader Yevgeny Shevchuk. Shortly after his release, Prime Minsiter Vlad Filat visited the police officer at his Causeni home. “I made a promise to Alexandru's father and today we are witnessing the reintegration of the Ursu family”, said Filat, adding that much patience and consistent steps were needed to obtain his release. The Prime Minister promised Alexandru Ursu would be re-employed in the Ministry of the Interior's service. Alexandru Ursu, an investigator at the Hagimus police station, was sentenced to 15 years on charges of falsifying documents and using fraud to by an apartment in Bender. Ursu was detained for 3 years and 4 months at Prison no.1 in Hlinaia, Grigoriopol district.
