OSCE supports environmental conference on Black Sea region in Tiraspol

The OSCE Mission to Moldova welcomes the two-day international conference on environmental challenges in the Northern Black Sea region started today in Tiraspol. The conference is organized by Transnistrian regional authorities, academic institutions and NGOs, with the support of the OSCE Mission, it was in a press release.
The conference, “Geo-Ecological and Bio-Ecological Challenges of the Northern Black Sea Region,” brings together experts from the region to discuss sustainable management of natural resources and the environment in conditions of climatic change. Over 90 experts and NGO representatives from the Northern Black Sea region, including experts from both banks of the Dniester/Nistru river, Romania, Russia and Ukraine will attend the event.
“The OSCE Mission to Moldova supports environmental activities on both sides of the river through co-operation and confidence building. In this regard, we are also working on the establishment of Aarhus centres to promote public participation in environmental decision-making in Moldova,” said Ambassador Jennifer Brush, head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova.
The conference proceedings will be published in a book and made available online. Similar conferences have previously been organized in Tiraspol in 2001, 2005 and 2009.
