The OSCE will assist the constitutional authorities in the process of implementing the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA) in the Transnistrian region. The issue was discussed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Octavian Calmac and the Special Representative of the German OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transnistrian Settlement Process Cord Meier-Klodt, who is in Moldova on a visit, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of Economy, Octavian Calmac said that the Moldovan authorities want the DCFTA to be implemented all over the country, including in Transnistria. “To achieve these desiderata, we actively cooperate with the partners from the EU and experts from the given regions as we realize that the success of our actions depends greatly on the cooperation between all the players involved in this process,” he stated.

Cord Meier-Klodt said the OSCE will support the Moldovan authorities in their efforts to implement the provisions of the DCFTA. “During the German OSCE Chairmanship, we intend to stage several economic or other types of forums, with the participation of experts from the Republic of Moldova and from the EU, where to work out a set of concrete projects for the given raions. One of them was scheduled to take place this May,” he stated.

The official also said that during the German OSCE Chairmanship, Moldova will be offered support, in particular by Germany, in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process so that the dispute is resolved for the benefit of the people from both sides of the Nistru.
