The need of enhancing the trust between parties is an important factor in improving the situation in the Security Zone. The statement was made by the OSCE Mission chief in Moldova, ambassador Philippe Rambler, on Thursday, May 22, at the siting of the Joint Control Commission (JCC), after approving of the report of the Joint Military Commandment, Info-Prim Neo has learnt form the Defense Ministry.
Philippe Rambler mentioned as a first step in building the trust between the parties the need to resume the talks on canceling the military posts from the Security Zone. The JCC Moldovan co-chairman, Ion Solonenco, remarked “the appeal of the OSCE Mission Chief, emphasizing his will to enhance the trust between parties, made the sitting to unfold fruitfully, benevolently, without accusations.”
At the sitting they approved colonel Aurel Fondos in the position of superior military chief of the Peace-Keeping Forces on Moldova's behalf, replacing colonel Victor Macrinschi. The new superior will take over the duties on June 1. Also, after completing the contingent of military observers on behalf of Moldova, major Sergiu Tean was approved as a military observer.
On May 29, the UN marks the Peace-Keepers Day. Pn this occasion, they planned to hold a meeting of peace-keepers at the highest level – a new step in building the trust between the two sides.
In this regard the military attache of the Russian Embassy to Moldova, general Leonid Azarin, proposed to set up some common units of Peace-Keepers. Thus, the Moldovan, Russian and Transnistrian peace-keepers will have the possibility to live together, subordinating to joint regulations. The Moldovan side hopes the Transnistrian side will accept to discuss this issue at the JCC sitting.
The JCC is running the Moldovan, Russian and Transnistrian peace-keepers in the Security Zone – an area of war hostilities in 1992.
