The OSCE representatives repeatedly recommended the Moldovan authorities to elaborate the view on the special status for the Transnistrian region as part of the Republic of Moldova as soon as possible. After two days of meetings in Chisinau and Tiraspol, Wolf Dietrich Heim, Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transnistrian Settlement Process, told a news conference that he called on the sides to maintain a constructive dialogue centering on results both in the 1+1 format meetings and in the meetings of the expert working groups, IPN reports.
Wolf Dietrich Heim said resoluteness, discipline and political will on the part of the sides involved in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process are needed for fulfilling the assumed commitments. “We now focus on the package that consists of eight points. Several of them are an inheritance from the Berlin Protocol, plus four subjects in which we would like more progress to be made. This package of eight points is a real chance for progress. It is important that the people see tangible results in their daily life,” stated the ambassador.
Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova Michael Scanlan told the same news conference that only the political will can ensure progress in settling the Transnistrian conflict during the next few months.
As to the planned meeting of President Igor Dodon and the Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnoselsky, the OSCE representatives said they support all the efforts aimed at making the internal position of Chisinau more coordinated and not only. The 5+2 format talks refer to a number of aspects and areas that require infection between the Government, Parliament and other players, including the Head of State. The trilateral meeting of the President, Prime Minister and Speaker of Parliament of Moldova, where it was noted that Chisinau will adopt a common approach, was very important. This consensus is very important for the general dynamics of the process.
About the future meeting in the 5+2 format, the OSCE representatives said this could be announced when results are achieved in the eight issues included in the agenda of discussions between Chisinau and Tiraspol.
