The Metropolitan Church of Chisinau and All Moldova disseminated to the faithful a message about the importance of White Week, the transition period to Great Lent. According to church cannons, meat is not eaten this week, but dairy products, eggs and fish are allowed and the people gradually prepare the body for the period of strict fasting, IPN reports.
In its message, the Metropolitan Church emphasizes that this week has not only a nutritional role, but also a spiritual one. On Wednesdays and Fridays, the Divine Liturgy is not held and the services include the Lenten Prayer of St. Ephraim the Syrian, specific to Great Lent. At the same time, believers are urged to reflect on the soul and closeness to God through prayer and forgiveness.
White Week culminates with the Sunday of Adam’s Expulsion from Paradise, also known as Forgiveness Sunday. According to church teachings, this day marks the last stage of preparation for Lent, and believers are urged to ask forgiveness from each other so that God may also forgive their sins.
