The Orthodox Christians, using the Julian Calendar, mark the birth of the Mother of God on Sunday, Info-Prim Neo reports. It's one of the most important religious holidays of the Orthodox calendar and the first big holiday of in the new church year starting on September 14. On 14 October the Orthodox Christians mark the Veil of the Mother of God and it's the religious holiday of Chisinau. Saint Mary was born in Nazareth of Galilee. Her parents were aged but did not have children, so the Mother of God was the fruit of their prayers and tears. They are celebrated a day after Saint Mary's birthday. On this day, the Christians take fruits, bread and candles to the church to sanctify them. According to the folk tradition, on Holy Mary's birthday the swallows leave for the tropics, the insects hide in the ground, and it gets more cold. Medical herbs start to be collected after this holiday, as well as walnuts, grapes and the fall cereals are sown.
