35 works of art created by young Moldovan and migrant students were exhibited at an event organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in the Republic of Moldova. The initiative is the result of a collaboration with the Academy of Music, Theater and Fine Arts and the young artists to represent the theme of International Migrants Day 2024: "Every Stage", IPN reports.
"This year, the celebration of International Migrants Day in the Republic of Moldova was enriched by a strong creative component. What you are seeing tonight in this hall, for the first time, is the result of the talent of Moldovan and migrant students from the Academy of Music, Theater and Fine Arts", said Ester Ruiz the Azua, head of the IOM Moldova mission, quoted in an IOM Moldova press release.
Ester Ruiz the Azua emphasized that migrants play critical roles in labor markets, filling skills gaps, stimulating innovation and entrepreneurship, and addressing demographic challenges in ageing societies.
"The IOM's unwavering support continues today with the confidence of the international donor community, comprehensively responding to the needs of migrants by facilitating their regular pathway and promoting their integration and reintegration in the Republic of Moldova", said Ester Ruiz de Azua.
Minister of Interior Affairs Daniella Misail-Nichitin noted that International Migrants Day is about unity and solidarity, and the MIA believes that every action counts, from the involvement of state authorities and cooperation with strategic partners and civil society, to the contribution of migrants to the socio-economic development of the country, promoting social integration.
According to Alexei Buzu, Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Moldovans have shown that they can be good hosts and colleagues for anyone who comes to the country and wants to start a new life here. "I am very happy to see how migrants are integrating into the labor market, some of them come to create new jobs, others are employed by our employers, it is extremely valuable for our country's economy and labor market," the minister said.
The award ceremony will be held at the Academy of Music, Theater and Fine Arts in January 2025.
On December 4, 2000, the United Nations General Assembly, taking into account the large and growing number of migrants in the world, proclaimed December 18 as International Migrants Day.
