Prime Minister Ion Chicu asked to complete the investigation into the way in which Avia Invest, which has managed the Chisinau International Airport since 2013, fulfills its obligations, especially the investment ones, by February 1. He noted that if it turns out that the investments are made from taxes collected from passengers, the contract should be terminated, IPN reports.

The task was entrusted to the Public Property Agency and the competent ministries. Premier Chicu said Avia Invest took over the airport as a result of procedures fixed by the then Government.

“We already possess information that the investments are made not from the financial resources of the so-called investor, but from the exaggerated taxes collected by these monopolists from each citizen,” he stated.

Avia Invest took over the Chisinau International Airport in November 2013 based on a public-private partnership. The company undertook to manage the airport for 49 years and to invest €250 million in its modernization.

At the end of last December, the press reported that NR Investments Ltd gave up buying a 95% holding in Avia Invest SRL. The latter later informed that Russian businessman Andrey Goncharenko became the new beneficiary of Komaksavia Airport Invest Ltd, which owns 95% of the share capital of Avia-Invest SRL.
