Members of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth”  and of the party with the same name, which organized a large-scale protest in Chisinau on April 24, deny that protesters caused the witnessed altercations. These told a news conference that the instigators were enemies of the protest movement or even were ‘Plahotniuc’s men’ disguised themselves as protesters with the aim of discrediting the movement, IPN reports.

Alexandru Slusari, a member of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth”, said he earlier believed that Moldova was on the way of becoming a police state and a fully captured state, but at last Sunday’s protest he convinced himself that it already reached such a state. “Two basic human rights were violated yesterday – the right to free movement and the right to protest,” he stated, noting that thousands of people from regions were prevented from coming to Chisinau.

Vasile Nastase, one of the leaders of the Platform, stated that the police used paralyzing spray and he was personally affected by this, barely managing to come out of the crowd. The number of protesting people is on the rise and these will continue to protest until parliamentary elections are held simultaneously with the presidential ones.

The chairman of the Political Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” and one of the founders of the Civic Platform Andrei Nastase said last Sunday’s protest showed that the protest movement is becoming younger. The protest also involved people from the diaspora who came home to take part in the protest. More events will be organized, but these will be agreed in the Civic Forum together with the protesters and will be announced after the Easter holidays.

Thousands of people from different regions of Moldova took part in an antigovernment protest organized by the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” in Chisinau on April 24. These demanded that the current government should resign and early parliamentary elections should be held simultaneously with the presidential elections, and that those who committed the bank fraud should be held accountable. They also demanded that politician and businessman Vlad Plahotniuc be punished for his wrongdoings.
