The ordinary spring session of Parliament that started in February ended on July 29, IPN reports.

Speaker Igor Grosu said in Parliament that the first legislative session of 2022 was held in one of the most difficult periods not only in the history of the Republic of Moldova, but also of the whole region. “The unjustified Russian military aggression against Ukraine disrupted normality and February 24, 2022 became worldwide a point of reference that brought about problems that mankind hadn’t met since World War II. Immediately after the war started, we had to declare a state of emergency that continues regrettably,” stated the official.

According to the Speaker, the end of the war in Ukraine does not seem to be near. This war essentially changed the foreign policy of the civilized world. The European Union granted the candidate status to Moldova and Ukraine and this is the most important accomplishment. The tragic events in Ukraine accelerated this process, but this wouldn’t have been possible without the determination of the citizens who voted in a historic way at the elections held a year ago.

“We have to do a lot of homework, starting from the justice system, economic, regional development, protection of the national minorities and so on. We will do it as we promised this,” stated Igor Grosu.

The July 29 sitting ended with the singing of Moldova’s anthem by soprano Tatiana Costiuc, master of art, soloist of the National Philharmonic “Sergey Lunkevich”.

Parliament has two ordinary sessions each year. The spring session begins in February and ends in July. The autumn session starts in September and is closed in December.
