Stopping and checking vehicles without legal grounds shall be prohibited. At the same time, when pulling someone over, police officers will be required to tell the drivers their names, rank and legal ground for the the stop, and will show their service identity card. Interior Minister Andrei Nastase signed an order on ensuring compliance with the provisions of the normative acts in the field of road traffic control, IPN reports.

According to the order, traffic surveillance units will be located only in visible places, while the previous practice of “hiding behind the bushes” will be forbidden.

A press release of the Ministry of the Interior Internal Affairs says that the measure is in line with the priority to fully ensure the rights and freedoms of citizens and to prevent abuse by law enforcement. At the same time, by setting up surveillance units strictly in public view, the prevention component is strengthened.
