Attacks of the authorities on the Social Democracy Party (PDS) and its leaders and members became more frequent and more pronounced as the general local elections approach, PDS leader Dumitru Braghis told a press conference on Monday, February 19. According to Braghis, the state’s bodies took several measures at the direct command of the Communists’ Party (PCRM) representatives. He mentioned the refusal to offer a room for meetings with electors, intimidation of the participants in meetings, harassment applied to leaders in the territory etc. Moreover, the PDS leader said he held information from sources close to law enforcement bodies, according to which there are attempts against the PDS leadership which are prepared in order to “make it obey the government”. Braghis exemplified by a letter containing such information, he said he had received earlier. PDS leader stated that the leaders and supporters of the party will not let themselves be intimidated, they will continue to fight and will criticise the undemocratic, corrupted regime, installed by PCRM. He also urged the key leadership of the country to renounce upon such kind of actions. Braghis added that he had informed foreign diplomatic missions and international organisations about these facts. The Social Democracy Party will continue to monitor the situation and if such facts will continue, the party’s leadership will solicit the international organisations and the world’s states to institute sanctions against those who are involved in repressive actions against political opponents, independent mass-media and Moldovan citizens, PDS leader Dumitru Braghis concluded.
